Depuis une trentaine d’années, ce manque a été comblé dans presque tous les quartiers périphériques ainsi que par l’édification de la Grande Mosquée. L’originalité de la mosquée conçue par Zévaco réside dans le fait que l’architecte n’a fait appel à aucun élément décoratif traditionnel de l’architecture arabo-andalouse. Le minaret est entièrement en béton brut de décoffrage, les toitures voûtées –interprétation de celles fameuses de la Karaouiyine- ne sont pas recouvertes de tuiles vernissées, les ouvertures sont soulignées par des claustras en briques. C’est probablement une des seules mosquées dans le pays d’esthétique exclusivement «brutaliste». Néanmoins, des transformations ont fait leur apparition, ces dernières années, sur l’une des entrées introduisant zellijs et tuiles vertes.
